01

Business history

GE founded its Research Laboratory in Schenectady, New York in 1900, one of the earliest dedicated industrial research laboratories in the United States.

Researchers there included Nobel laureate Irving Langmuir and X-ray pioneer William Coolidge.

Later known as GE Global Research, the organization evolved into research centers aligned with GE Aerospace, GE Vernova and GE HealthCare as the businesses separated.
