Business history
GE launched its Energy Storage business and Durathon battery factory in Schenectady on July 10, 2012. Durathon used sodium–nickel-chloride chemistry, not lithium-ion.
In November 2015, GE announced an end to Durathon manufacturing and engineering in Schenectady, according to contemporaneous WAMC reporting quoting GE. This is distinct from its later storage-systems work.
GE introduced a lithium-ion storage solution for Con Edison Development in April 2015 and launched Reservoir in March 2018. In September 2024, GE Vernova introduced its RESTORE DC Block within FLEXRESERVOIR. These later systems must not be presented as resumed Durathon cell manufacturing.
